You’re in pain. And seeking relief. While many of us are determined to seek treatment that is drug-free, it’s difficult to know which laser therapy options are right for our particular issue. In this blog, we’ll break down the use of K-Laser, a therapy that Creekside employs in our practice.
The mechanics of laser therapy (photobiomodulation) are complex for the layman and many laser companies use this complexity to “talk over your head”, attempting to create their own pseudo-science to fit the technical specifications they can actually produce in their equipment.
K-Laser has set itself apart from the pack in pain management as they are dedicated to constant research and a better understanding of the underlying principles of their technology. The company is equally dedicated to making these complex ideas more readily understandable to those who use and benefit from laser therapy. K-Laser works to heal the body and the company has developed state-of-the-art technology to fit the science…not the other way around.
The infrared wavelengths used in the K-Laser allow for targeting specific areas of the body. It is unique in that it is the only Class 4 therapy laser that utilizes these three infrared wavelengths, allowing for deep penetration into the body to reach areas such as your spine and hip.
Examples of the types of injuries that K-Laser therapy can be helpful for include*:
- Acute injuries, such as strains, sprains, and shoulder injuries
- Repetitive-use injuries such as carpal tunnel syndrome
- Traumatic injuries, such as post-motor vehicle accident with cervical strain/sprain
- Chronic issues such as frozen shoulder and arthritis
In addition to pain management, we also recognize that K-Laser applied before adjusting can be beneficial. One of the primary problems with adjustments is the natural guarding and splinting of the stabilizer muscles and ligamentous structures. K-Laser therapy eliminates this response, giving patients a more effective, comfortable, longer lasting benefit from chiropractic treatment. Patients benefit from reduced pain and inflammation, increased range of motion and enhanced tissue repair.
K-Laser History
In the 1990’s, Class IV laser therapy was established in Europe. Doctors and clinicians utilizing laser therapy saw the need for higher power giving higher dosages at treatment depths and shorter treatment times. Up to the end of the 20th century, Class IV therapeutic laser technology became mainstream in Europe, and the K-Laser was introduced in Italy in 2002.
As the therapy was making its debut in Italy, the first Class IV therapeutic laser gained market clearance by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the first models of the K-Laser gained FDA clearance in March of 2005.
